Hyperhomocysteinemia and CADASIL-syndrome

Keywords: homocysteine, stroke, hemorheologic microocclusion

The given article describes causes of strokes in young people as well as pathogenesis of cerebral accidents. The article discusses issues of diagnosis, treatment and secondary prevention of stroke of hemorheologic microocclusion type. The article analyses a case of CADASIL-syndrome diagnosed at the Regional Vascular Center of the state-financed institution «Republican Clinical Hospital» in Cheboksary. Cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with subcortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy (CADASIL) syndrome is a congenital disease of brain small vessels running with recurrent lacunar strokes and leading to pyramidal, cerebellar, extrapyramidal failure and dementia. CADASIL syndrome is a rare potentially menacing neurological condition that is observed in young patients and requires a follow-up examination using current diagnostic techniques.
