Efficiency of nicotine dependence treatment and prevention by results of cochrane collaboration’s researches

Keywords: smoking cessation, treatment of nicotine dependence, smoking prevention

A wide range of various interventions for nicotine dependence (ND) treatment and prevention is considered in the review. The analysis includes 33 randomized controlled studies for smoking cessation performed in 2012–2016 taken from the database of Cochrane Collaboration. To motivate for smoking cessation doctor’s and nurse’s advice, individual consultation, involvement in medical groups, interview at direct contact, by phone, via Internet, mass media and, biomedical tests are used. Pharmacotherapy included first of all nicotine replacement therapy, varenicline, antidepressants (bupropion, nortriptyline) as well as opioid antagonists and a nicotine vaccine. Among other methods acupuncture is mentioned. Smoking prevention is focused on younger generation; it is carried out at schools and in families. Efficiency of ND treatment and smoking prevention is still low which should encourage continuing studies.
