Ethnic peculiarities in prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors in urban population

The aim of the present work was to study ethnic characteristics in prevalence of risk factors of circulatory diseases (CD) in urban population. For the study purposes data of 212 residents of the town of Cheboksary of the Chuvash and Russian ethnicity aged 20-69 years were analyzed. Risk factors for circulatory diseases in descending order are the age over 40 years (relative risk of 4,7 relative units – r.u.), diabetes mellitus (2,5 r.u.), obesity (2,3 r.u.), hypercholesterolemia (1,8 r.u.), hypertriglyceridemia (1,6 r.u.), low physical activity (1,3 r.u.), family history (1,3 r.u.). Salt intake, smoking, alcohol consumption, low cholesterol levels of high density lipoproteins were insignificant in contribution to CD development at the population level. In the Russians the rate of obesity, diabetes development and CD heredity is higher. Combination of obesity with diabetes increases more intensely the risk of CD in the Russians in comparison with the Chuvashs.
